Bakers at Commonplace Coffee have the essential function of producing delicious, hearty and creative food options for our retail shop guests and wholesale clients with high-quality, regionally sourced ingredients. This position is Part-Time with the potential to expand to Full-Time. This position is based in Indiana, Pennsylvania.


Essential Functions

  • Maintain high quality and consistent product standards.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Prep ingredients for bakery items 2 to 3 times a week
  • Follow recipes to prepare baked goods.  This would involve adjusting ingredients amounts according to the amount of baked goods needed.
  • Monitor oven temperatures to ensure consistent product
  • Pack and label items for orders and to prepare for delivery to the coffee shops, ensuring the proper amount of product is getting to the appropriate shop location.
  • Taste products regularly to maintain familiarity with product and quality standards.
  • Support a positive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by bakery manager and supervisors.
  • Communicate with team members and management to solve problems.

Physical Demands

  • Stand and walk – must be able to stand for 4-8 hour shifts and move about the shop.
  • Perform repetitive tasks – must be able to complete repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, and forearms to operate espresso machinery.
  • Taste and smell – must be able to detect and perceive the smells of coffee.
  • Oral communication – must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with customers and team members.
  • Carry weight, lift – must be able to lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed at the Commonplace Coffee bakery in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
  • The work environment can be noisy, hot, or cold.
  • This job involves working closely with other individuals in an environment with limited space.

Additional Details

  • Hourly, part-time; 20 hours per week (Potential to expand to full-time.)
  • Weekends required.
  • This position reports to the Bakery Manager.
