We will be opening The Commonplace Coffeehouse soon. We have only lived in Indiana, PA for about a month and a half — but we already feel at home. Julie and I are very excited that we are “living out our dream” by opening a coffeehouse. We want to create a place where people can come together — we want to create a “third place.” We want to create a “common-place”!!!! Julie actually named the coffeehouse after a poem by one of our favorite poets — Walt Whitman. It is called “The Commonplace” (It is from his book: Leave of Grass)
The commonplace I sing; How cheap is health! how cheap nobility! Abstinence, no falsehood, no gluttony, lust; The open air I sing, freedom, toleration, (Take here the mainest lesson–less from books–less from the schools,) The common day and night–the common earth and waters, Your farm–your work, trade, occupation, The democratic wisdom underneath, like solid ground for all.
We have received such a warm welcome from Indiana, PA so far and we are excited about what we will be doing in our new community.
