PRODUCTION ROASTER + FULFILLMENT TEAM MEMBER

Summary

The Production Roaster + Fulfillment Team Member executes the craft that represents Commonplace Coffee’s commitment to honoring the supply chain and producing thoughtful, approachable coffee. This role works closely with our Head Roaster, Warehouse & Fulfillment Manager, and Fulfillment Team to ensure guests and wholesale partners enjoy a quality coffee experience – one that will leave them inspired and appreciative of what coffee can be when it is done well. The individual in this role should possess coffee experience with a demonstrated passion for the roasting process and interest in understanding all parts of the production and fulfillment process. This role is full-time - the Production Roaster + Fulfillment Team Member will split their time between roasting (two days per week) and fulfillment (three days per week), assisting the entire Commonplace Coffee wholesale coffee program.

Essential Functions

Roasting:

Accurately and efficiently roast coffee to correct profiles to ensure fulfillment of all coffee orders
Develop a knowledge and familiarity with roasting methods, materials, and equipment.
Understand and follow all safety, quality, and sanitation policies and procedures.
Clean and handle daily maintenance of all roasting equipment.
Monitor and log production, roasting curves, and quality control feedback.
Meet quality control benchmarks for all roast profiles.
Assist with new roast profile development as required.
Assist with tracking green inventory and stocking for roasting needs.
Collaborate with other team members for order fulfillment.
Participate in quality assurance cuppings among members of Commonplace Coffee’s Roasting Team.

Fulfillment:

Accurately and efficiently fulfill coffee orders for pickup, shipment, and delivery.
Communicate inventory levels frequently and accurately to the Warehouse & Fulfillment Manager.
Potential to deliver products to Commonplace Coffee cafes and wholesale clients as needed.
Potential to interact with wholesale clients and communicate wholesale client feedback to Warehouse & Fulfillment Manager.
Represent the mission and values of Commonplace Coffee when delivering products.
Obey all traffic laws and constantly stay alert while driving.
Communicate any maintenance needs for equipment and vehicles.
Assist in developing new work procedures to improve efficiency.
Eager to learn about the various roles within the coffee fulfillment team.

General:

Actively contribute to coffee supply chain goals and vision as directed by Commonplace Coffee leadership.
Be knowledgeable about rotation of coffee offerings.

Qualifications

1+ years working in a specialty coffee environment.
Ability to solve complex problems with multiple variables under pressure.
Clean driving record and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records check.
Must be organized and detail oriented.
Ability to multi-task manual labor tasks (dosing batches) while problem solving (profile roasting)
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Self-motivated with a desire for continued education and to grow coffee skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Must work well on a team.
Consistent demonstration of integrity and reliability.

Physical Demands

Stand and walk - must be able to stand for 4-8 hour shifts and move about the roastery.
Perform repetitive tasks - must be able to complete repetitive motions with the hands, wrists and forearms when operating roasting machinery.
Taste and smell – must be able to detect and perceive the smells and tastes of coffee.
Oral communication – must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with team members.
Carry weight, lift – must be able to lift up to 30-50 pounds frequently and team lift up to 155 pounds occasionally.
