PITTSBURGH, PA (June 25, 2024) – Commonplace Coffee has partnered with Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting and 91.3 WYEP to release Mixtape Blend, a year-long collaborative donation coffee blend. The coffee will officially hit Commonplace Coffee shelves on Tuesday, July 2, and will be available in their lineup for one calendar year through June 2025. Commonplace Coffee will donate a portion of retail and wholesale proceeds from Mixtape Blend to WYEP. You can learn more about the coffee and purchase a 12oz bag priced at $20.50 at all Commonplace Coffee locations and online at commonplacecoffee.com/coffees.
Commonplace Coffee will also be hosting an exclusive early release of the blend at the 2024 WYEP Summer Music Festival. They will offer cold brew samples of the coffee. In addition, they will sell full-size cold brew, cold brew lemonade, and matcha lemonade. A limited number of Mixtape Blend bags of coffee will also be available for purchase.
Members of the 91.3 WYEP team visited Commonplace Coffee Headquarters and worked together to develop, taste, and select this blend. “As a morning DJ, it’s no surprise that coffee is a big part of my daily routine,” says WYEP’s Morning Host, Joey Spehar. “The folks at Commonplace remind me a lot of the folks who work at WYEP - they’re thoughtful, passionate, and so good at what they do. Working with another community institution that just gets it was incredibly rewarding.”
WYEP’s Afternoon Host, Rosemary Welsch adds, “It's wonderful to meet people who are as passionate about their work as I am about mine. I never realized how much there is to know about coffee, the expertise and care it takes to bring a delicious product to life. Cheers for the lovers of coffee at Commonplace. I'm a believer!”
Commonplace Coffee has been giving back through coffee sales for many years, but this blend marks their second official year-long donation coffee. Vikki Harris, Head Roaster at Commonplace Coffee, shares "Working on this blend has been so fun! The WYEP team was open to the process and engaged in what it takes to make a collaborative blend happen. My biggest inspiration was the set of descriptors provided by WYEP about their organization: eclectic, unique and funky. I look for these factors when I enjoy both coffee and music, so it was easy to know what direction I wanted to take things. The components in this blend come together like an album with no skips." They add, "The current blend components are Aponte, a honey processed coffee from Nariño, Colombia, and Akagera Ikizere, a washed coffee from the Western Province of Rwanda. Together, they create a unique, refreshing, and bright blend. With the days getting longer and hotter, I would recommend making this as a flash brew iced coffee."
