From snowflakes to stars to feathers made from yarn, many art projects have graced Commonplace Coffee locations over the years. For the FIRST TIME ever, we’re launching a company-wide community art project, and we’re inviting guests at all of our cafes to participate!

The project is being headed by community art project coordinator and barista, Belle Battista. She shares, “I have loved seeing the medium of craft and art bring strangers, neighbors and friends together. It has been a joy to facilitate something that uses our joint effort and creativity to create something beautiful not only for the eye, but also to represent a beautiful community.”

The activity for this summer’s community art project is Shibori – the Japanese dyeing technique that involves folding, bunching, or bundling fabric and dyeing it with indigo.

Stop by your local Commonplace Coffee to:

• Fold a cloth and write your name on it (optional) – see folding instructions (scroll to bottom)
• Come back on one of the dates below to join us for a dyeing event – we’ll be dyeing all cloths folded at the shop, and you can bring your own natural fiber items to dye as well!
• Stop back after the dyeing event to see the completed community art installation at each location!
