Ongoing Collaboration Celebrates & Supports Pittsburgh Parks Through 2022

PITTSBURGH – SEPTEMBER 21, 2021 – The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and Commonplace Coffee today announced the launch of the Riverview Park Blend, the third release in a limited series celebrating Pittsburgh’s five regional parks.

Last fall, the nonprofit and Commonplace Coffee kicked off their partnership with the launch of the Frick Park Blend, followed by the Schenley Park Blend earlier this year. The Riverview Park Blend is an eight-week release running from the first day of fall through mid-November.

Each blend in the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy Series highlights one of the City’s five regional parks: Frick Park, Schenley Park, Highland Park, Riverview Park, and Emerald View Park. The custom blends will be sold at commonplacecoffee.com and at Commonplace Coffee locations in 12oz. bags priced at $17. In honor of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy’s 25th anniversary in 2021, Commonplace will donate 25% of profits from sales of custom parks blends directly to the nonprofit.

Dave Smallhoover, roasting operations manager, Commonplace Coffee, said the team at Commonplace’s Mexican War Streets café offered valuable insight in creating the new blend, as they frequently spend time at Riverview Park.

“When developing a blend, we always start by finding a base component that will provide a prominent feature note,” Smallhoover said. “With the Riverview Park Blend being an autumn release, we can’t help but think about dreamy and crisp fall apples ripening. The final product is a coffee we can drink all day long as we soak up the hidden paths of Riverview Park this fall.”

Blend components include El Aguacatal from El Salvador, which provides the malic apple acidity; El Zorro, Guatemala, which provides honey and caramel notes; and Grupo Martir, Colombia, an 18-producer group, whose coffee brings sweetness and body that lifts up each component.

“We deeply value this ongoing collaboration with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy,” said Abby Eckhardt, marketing associate, Commonplace Coffee. “The parks are such a staple in the lives of Commonplace staff and guests alike, and we are proud to be giving back to an organization that shares our goal of supporting the local community.”
