PITTSBURGH, PA (June 3, 2022) – Commonplace Coffee has partnered with nonprofit Haiti H2O (Hope to Opportunity) to release their first ever Haitian coffee, Three Mountains. The single origin coffee officially hit Commonplace Coffee shelves on Tuesday, May 31, and will be available for eight weeks through July 26. You can learn more about the coffee and purchase a 12oz bag priced at $20 at all Commonplace Coffee locations and online at commonplacecoffee.com/coffees. Three Mountains will also be available for purchase as brewed drip coffee at all Commonplace Coffee locations on Thursday, June 9, and Friday, June 10.
Commonplace Coffee will donate 25% of proceeds from sales of this coffee to Haiti H2O. Funds raised from this project will go towards furthering current Haiti H2O proposals and projects including rebuilding a school in Meloniere that was destroyed in Hurricane Matthew, building homes for those in greatest need after the recent earthquake, hosting mobile medical clinics in Bassin Caiman and Plain Matin, and building a bathroom facility for school children in St. Martin. Haiti H2O is also exploring a micro-business proposal for a bakery in Plain Matin as well as working with another non-profit to do farmer training.
Rhonda Smith, executive director at Haiti H2O shares, “Our approach is to take time to listen to local leaders and invest in their ideas, empowering them to make positive change. We currently work with four rural communities on a variety of projects.” Some of those projects have included work with another nonprofit and Haitian coffee exporter Singing Rooster, who Commonplace Coffee was able to source coffee through for this collaboration.
Of the collaboration, Smith added, “We are thrilled to be part of the first release of a Haitian coffee with Commonplace Coffee. Haiti used to be one of the world’s largest suppliers of coffee, but political instability and natural disasters over the past 50+ years have crippled that industry. We are glad that Commonplace is partnering with Haiti H2O to import coffee beans through a social enterprise who works with small coffee farms in rural Haiti to help the farmers access U.S. markets.”
