Commonplace Coffee SouthSide Works opened in June of 2023, serving as the culmination of more than a year’s worth of planning and buildout with our friends and business partners Jacqueline and Nate Schoedel, co-owners of The Speckled Egg. Our team first met Jacki and Nate at Smallman Galley, a restaurant incubator in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, where we built a connection over shared meals and freshly brewed coffee.
When Jacki and Nate launched their flagship restaurant at the historic Union Trust Building in downtown Pittsburgh in 2019, Commonplace Coffee Founder TJ Fairchild was there to help them build their coffee program. Together, they elevated the concept of classic “diner-style coffee” to new heights. In 2022, they approached us about sharing a space in the SouthSide Works, and we knew it was a project we wanted to hatch together!
