We have been purchasing coffee from Teojomulco via Osito, one of our importing partners, since 2021. Teojomulco, led by Señor Hildilberto Roman, is comprised of 30 families. The lot we purchased this year is comprised of coffee from 13 of the 30 families, in Sierra Sur, Oaxaca, which is one of Mexico’s most remote coffee-growing regions. Most Sierra Sur residents work on small farms and speak indigenous Mesoamerican languages, namely; Zapoteco and Mixteco. Given their remoteness and the language barrier, coffee exported from Sierra Sur is quite uncommon. The high quality of their coffee, however, has incentivized Osito, UNTAO and the producers of Teojomulco alike to develop creative solutions to bring this coffee to specialty markets around the world.
Teojomulco initially caught the attention of exporter and dry mill, UNTAO, in 2020. UNTAO works with and processes some of the best coffees in Oaxaca, including coffee from the well known cooperative Union San Pedro. Shortly after beginning their relationship together, UNTAO introduced the producers of Teojomulco to our importing partner, Osito Coffee. Commonplace has been purchasing from Teojomulco ever since.
Many of the producers from Teojomulco have received technical training and assistance from Enrique López Aguilar from the world famous Finca Chelín which is renowned for being one of the most innovative coffee farms in all of Mexico. The pay off for these trainings and the hard work of these producers has been clear; consistent high quality community lots over the years, as well as Osito separating out various microlots from single producers within the group.
We continue to purchase this coffee over the years for its warm, clean and incredibly sweet profile; this is a phenomenal representation of Oaxacan washed coffee. We’re excited to continue highlighting this uncommon growing region and this unique group of farmers.

FAQs
Shipping Information
We operate Monday-Friday and strive to ship your order within 2 business days of the order or renewal date (not including weekends.) Your order will be shipped by UPS or USPS to your door. You will receive a tracking notification when your order ships.
Roasting Information
All coffee is roasted fresh to order on our Loring S35 Kestrel Coffee Roaster. All bags are stamped with the roast date, and we think coffee tastes best if consumed within 2-4 weeks. However, if left whole bean and stored in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, the coffee can remain enjoyable for up to 4-6 months, depending on the bag or container. Most of our coffee is roasted to a medium or light/medium roast level, except for All Day, which is our staple dark roast offering.
How do I purchase this as a gift?
