This is our fifth year purchasing coffee from Luis Alberto Balladarez, via our friends at The Coffee Quest Importers.

This coffee comes from Finca La Bendición in the Dipilto-Jalapa mountain range of Nueva Segovia in northern Nicaragua (where Luis has multiple farms). True to the farm’s translation, La Bendición (“a blessing”) is a textbook example of phenomenal terroir for coffee cultivation: loose sandy soil with abundant humus (a rich organic material), ideal and consistent annual rains, a rich biodiverse environment of flora and fauna, and an abundance of tree coverage.

The growing conditions only tell part of the story: this coffee, like many from Finca La Bendición, was processed at Beneficio Las Segovias (BLS), a facility also managed by Luis. Coffee is carefully handpicked and delivered to BLS; from here, BLS “floats” all coffees in water to sort by density and remove potentially defective cherries. Naturals (like this offering) are then immediately taken to African raised beds where they dry anywhere from 25-30 days. BLS consistently produces some of the best coffees in Nicaragua, including many Cup of Excellence award winners; most notably 3rd place in 2022, 6th place in 2021, 1st place in 2020, 1st and 5th place in 2018, and many more placements over the years.

First and foremost, we chose this coffee continue our buying relationship with Luis Alberto. We also want to continue highlighting the amazing output from Luis and his farms in Nicaragua. The varietal for this offering, Pacamara, is known for its very high quality potential, and this lot delivers fully. This coffee presents with a silky mouthfeel, fruit notes of strawberry and pineapple, and a shortbread-like sweetness.

FAQs

Shipping Information

We operate Monday-Friday and strive to ship your order within 2-3 business days of the order or renewal date (not including weekends.) Your order will be shipped by UPS or USPS to your door. You will receive a tracking notification when your order ships.

Roasting Information

All coffee is roasted fresh to order on our Loring S35 Kestrel Coffee Roaster. All bags are stamped with the roast date, and we think coffee tastes best if consumed within 2-4 weeks. However, if left whole bean and stored in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, the coffee can remain enjoyable for up to 4-6 months, depending on the bag or container. Most of our coffee is roasted to a medium or light/medium roast level, except for All Day, which is our staple dark roast offering.

How do I purchase this as a gift?

You can include a note when adding the product to your cart (or by emailing our team) to request that certain coffees be excluded.
