This release marks Commonplace Coffee’s first time purchasing from coffee importer Yellow Rooster.

Commonplace Coffee has been well aware of Yellow Rooster since early 2023. We have cupped with them multiple times, spent time with them at the Specialty Coffee Association Expo annually, and have sampled many of their coffees via other roasters. For many reasons (low inventories, Yellow Rooster’s increasing popularity, warehouse fires, the list goes on) the stars never aligned for a collaboration between Commonplace and Yellow Rooster, despite our mutual interest. We continued building our relationship calibrating on Commonplace’s preferences and needs; in the latter half of 2025, we finally made a breakthrough thanks to the work of Sara Bedoya at Yellow Rooster. As they say, slow and steady wins the race.

Tomás Beno Medina, along with his wife and family, farm and tend to 2 small plots of land near La Coipa in Cajamarca: El Níspero and El Cedro. The lot that we purchased from Tomás this year is from El Cedro, where he grows a handful of different varieties (Typica, Bourbon, Gesha, and a few others) that all receive shade cover from cedar trees - hence the name of the farm. Tomás inherited El Cedro from his grandparents somewhat recently, located roughly 500 meters away from his other farm, El Níspero (which he has overseen for about a decade now).

We selected this coffee to finally begin a purchasing relationship with Yellow Rooster and to highlight a Peruvian coffee in our rotational single origin lineup. This coffee has a soft yet bright acidity, with notes of crisp yellow apple, cherry cola and a subtle vanilla note that lingers as the coffee cools. We think this coffee is excellent for everyday drinking and we are excited to highlight the work done at Finca El Cedro.

FAQs

Shipping Information

We operate and roast Monday-Friday and strive to ship your order within 2-4 business days (not including weekends). All items will ship together. Your order will be delivered by UPS or USPS to your door within 2-4 business days of the package being shipped. You will receive a tracking notification when your order ships.

Roasting Information

All coffee is roasted fresh to order on our Loring S35 Kestrel Coffee Roaster. All bags are stamped with the roast date, and we think coffee tastes best if consumed within 2-4 weeks. However, if left whole bean and stored in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, the coffee can remain enjoyable for up to 4-6 months, depending on the bag or container. Most of our coffee is roasted to a medium or light/medium roast level, except for All Day, which is our staple dark roast offering.

How do I purchase this as a gift?

You can include a note when adding the product to your cart (or by emailing our team) to request that certain coffees be excluded.
